Neither Here, nor There

In the Nahuatl language of the Aztecs, there is a word called nepantla, which means the “between times” or the “land between lands.” These liminal states are the edges, boundaries and borders in which transformation takes place. What do we do when we find ourselves still stuck in a prolonged period of this in-between? Uncertain of which steps to take in order to move forward, uncertain of what comes next or if we will ever find our way back to some so-called normalcy, and starved for palpable intimacies and places we’ve lost through crisis.

In this exhibition, the artists present various ways of navigating and connecting in the liminal state we find ourselves in, by capturing and creating tangents through which the audience can, in a way, move towards each other.
